A active World War One bomb has been found at a home in Norfolk, after being displayed on a mantelpiece for five years.

The ordnance was found to be live when the owner's son sent a photograph to a collector.

It was only then identified as a First World War German Granatenwerfer mortar bomb.

The bomb had been displayed for half a decade in the man's home in the village of Wormegay after receiving it as a present.

He had incorrectly believed it had been deactivated.

Norfolk Police confirmed that a controlled explosion has been carried out by a bomb disposal team.
