Gibraltar: Military Personnel Celebrate Queen's Official Birthday

Military personnel in Gibraltar put on a triumphant display in honour of the Queen's birthday celebrations on the island.

The parade took place in Grand Casemates Square on Thursday evening, with the Royal Gibraltar Regiment, the Royal Gibraltar Band and Corps of Drums putting on a display.

The event celebrated the Queen's official birthday which is always in June, although she turned 95 in April.

Queen Elizabeth II is the Queen of the United Kingdom and 15 other Commonwealth countries.

Queen Elizabeth II was born on 21 April 1926 but, in line with tradition, if a British monarch is not born during the summer months, they are allowed to have a second official birthday.

Earlier in the month, it was announced that the Queen's official birthday will be celebrated with a military parade at Windsor Castle on Saturday 12 June.

Saturday's parade will be carried out in the castle's Quadrangle by the Household Division, whose personnel passed an inspection in Hyde Park on June 3 for the event, while the Queen's Colour of F Company Scots Guards will be trooped.
