MoD Dismisses Williamson 'Classified Leaks' Claims

The Ministry of Defence is denying claims that the Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson released classified information in an interview about Russian threats.

According to a front page report in The Sunday Times, opponents of the Defence Secretary have claimed he leaked intelligence to distract attention from his admission he put his marriage at risk by kissing a colleague while working for a fireplace manufacturer in 2004.

A Ministry of Defence spokesperson says Mr Williamson did not leak intelligence or release classified material. It's understood that GCHQ and MI6 have also confirmed that no intelligence was compromised.
In an interview published in The Telegraph, Mr Williamson pointed to Russia as a threat and said an attack could cause thousands and thousands of deaths. He also warned that Britainās power supplies could be targeted.
Earlier in the week Mr Williamson sought to assure MPs that changes to an upcoming defence review will leave the armed forces better prepared for new threats.
