MOD Looks To 'Maximise' Contribution Of Reservists In New Review

The Ministry of Defence (MOD) is to look at ways it can "maximise" the skills of its reservists in a new review.

The Reserve Forces 2030 review will analyse how the "specialist knowledge and expertise" of reservists can be used by defence and wider Government by the end of the decade.

It will also consider "fresh ways" that reservists could contribute.

The MOD said the role of the reservists in the coronavirus response will help shape the review.

Armed Forces Minister, James Heappey MP, said reservists play an “integral role" within the military.

He said: "It’s crucial that we look towards the future, not only to consider how best to utilise our existing talent but also how we can strengthen the role of reserves for generations to come."

The MOD said reservists possess "specialist or niche skills", using those who helped build the NHS Nightingale Hospitals as an example.

It comes after a report by a leading think tank said the Government must learn from the work of military planners during the coronavirus outbreak.
