General Public 'Doesn't Trust Charities', Says Cobseo Chairman

The British public does not trust military charities to do their job, according to Cobseo, the Confederation of Service Charities.

It follows the recent scandals that affected civilian organisations such as Oxfam and Save the Children.

Sir John McColl, Chairman of Cobseo, says military charities are not exempt from public suspicion, so they need to prove themselves.

According to him, surveys show that "the trust in charities across the nation is at its lowest level since those surveys began".

Therefore, Cobseo is taking measures to "ensure that we, in the service charity sector, are an exemplar sector within the charities community.

"We think our charities are well run, but we also need to say that to the nation at large, because our vital ground is to retain the trust of the nation."
