Police Make More Arrests In Investigation Into Ex-Royal Navy Officer's Murder

Mike Samwell

Police have arrested two more people in connection with the murder of a former Royal Navy officer.

Mike Samwell was hit by his own car in Manchester as he tried to stop thieves driving off in it.

Last night officers investigating the incident arrested a 29-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy on suspicion of murder and burglary.

They are both now in police custody.

Police earlier this week arrested two men aged 20 and 21 but they have now both been bailed.

Detective Inspector Lewis Hughes, of GMP's Major Incident Team, said:

"This has been a fast moving investigation and we have made significant progress since Mike's murder and have now arrested two more people who will be questioned by detectives later today.

"However, our enquiries do not end there and we will continue to move forward with the investigation but we still need the public's help.

"If you have any information that you believe can help us then I would urge you to please contact police immediately."

Mr Samwell served for 12 years in the Royal Navy, including on board a nuclear attack submarine as a weapons officer.

Since leaving the forces he had worked as a programme manager for engineering firm Atkins in Warrington, Cheshire.
