Prince Harry Visiting Charity Campaigners

Prince Harry will meet with charity campaigners raising money to install a monument recognising Royal Navy diving and mine disposal teams.

The charity, Project Vernon, hopes to install a sculpture in Portsmouth where the training site HMS Vernon was once based.

So far more than two thirds of its £325,000 target has been raised.

HMS Vernon was the former base for Mining and Torpedo Schools as well as Clearance Diving and Mine Warfare branches.

Its footprint in Portsmouth is now a designer outlet (Gunwharf Quays) but was once home to the development of mine disposal techniques.

Prince Harry is Commodore-in-Chief, Small Ships and Diving, Royal Naval Command.
