£2m Worth Of Gold Found Hidden In Former Iraqi Tank
A military enthusiast who bought an Iraqi army tank on eBay found five gold bars hiding in it.
When Nick Mead got his Russian-made T54/69 tank, he was planning to renovate it and use it as part of his tank-driving experiences business.
As the previous owner had found machine gun ammunition inside, Mr Mead thought that weapons could be hidden inside the diesel tank.
He couldn't imagine that he would have found £2m worth of gold hiding in the diesel tank.
It's believed the gold was looted by Iraqi soldiers during the invasion of Kuwait in 1990.
However, Nick won't be banking his unexpected windfall.
After weighing and filming their find, he called Northamptonshire Police who have now taken the gold bars for investigation.
The 55-year-old from Helmdon in Northamptonshire told the Sun newspaper:
"You can’t exactly take five gold bullion bars down to Cash Converters without questions being asked, so we called the police"

The police have given Nick a receipt while they try to trace the gold bullion's original owner.
However, if he doesn't get the gold back Nick isn't worried:
'I'll still have my beautiful tank'
The tank will take pride of place in Nick's collection of 150 military vehicles at his Northamptonshire farm.
Meanwhile, inquiries will be made in Kuwait to see if the gold can be matched to any bullion which was stolen during the first Gulf War.
