Queen Unveils War Memorial Honouring Military And Civilians

Memorial Iraq Afghanistan

Around 2,500 invited guests, including representatives of veterans, serving military, bereaved families, charity workers, civil servants and politicians, attended a Drumhead Service on Horse Guards Parade in Whitehall.

An unveiling ceremony followed in Victoria Embankment Gardens in the shadow of the Ministry of Defence building.

The memorial is the work of sculptor Paul Day, who also designed the Battle of Britain Monument nearby.

It commemorates the duty and service of those who put themselves in harm's way to protect the nation's interests, helped those in danger or worked to improve the lives of those in the Gulf region, Iraq and Afghanistan between 1990 and 2015.
