Quick Thinking RAF Cadet Saves Boy From Drowning

Thomas Cadet save Leons Life in Gib

An RAF cadet from London, on a summer camp in Gibraltar, has saved the life of a local boy.

Thomas Kubica is one of the hundreds of RAF cadets who’ve been to the Rock on a camp this summer.

However, this teenager's week has ended up being more dramatic than others:

"It happened really fast and was quite scary".

"One moment I was literally swimming in the Ocean and everything was fine and then the tide suddenly changed and we are being pulled towards the net".

Thomas said the waves were "overwhelming" and that they were being dragged further out into the ocean.

He then spotted a 9-year-old boy, Leon, who had also got into trouble in the surf.

Thomas, acting quickly, grabbed him and swam him to safety.

Thomas has since been reunited with Leon and his grandmother, Yvette, who wanted to personally thank the cadet.

Yvette also spotted her Grandson in the water starting to struggle but was unable to reach him.

She says Thomas stayed with Leon the whole time until they were out the water, and described Thomas as "amazing".

Thomas said he has been trained as a Cadet in basic and intermediate swimming proficiency, which came in handy when saving Leon's life!
