Smoking Hot: Household Cavalry Host World Farrier Championships
The Household Cavalry has hosted the World Farrier Championships at Hyde Park Barracks in Knightsbridge.
Twenty-four teams worked in pairs to shoe Cavalry Chargers in the Army forge within 60 minutes.
The best farriers in the world are attracted to this competition. Military and civilian farriers compete side by side.
It takes members of the Armed Forces more than three years to qualify as a farrier. It's a trade that hasn't changed much in 600 years. LCpl Matthew Wade said:
"It's special because there's a lot more behind it than people realise. There's a real in depth knowledge side to it. When people come in and see our job, they see how amazing it is. People get quite memorized by it."
There are more than 2000 farriers in the UK and it's a growing industry.
