Record-Breaking Gusts Set To Hit Falkland Islands
High winds that could exceed all-time record speeds have been forecast across the Falklands Islands for Tuesday evening.
The record currently stands at 83 mph and HQ British Forces South Atlantic Islands have advised that "no non-essential travel" take place from 1800 to 0600 local time.
A statement went on to say:
"All external roads will be closed to military personnel and vehicles.
"All residents are advised not to travel unless absolutely necessary and to ensure that adequate preparations have been taken for the predicted wind speeds and accompanying precipitation.
"Loose items should be secured in order to avoid their becoming windblown hazards and all personnel are to stay indoors in solid structures throughout the evening and the night."
The Met Office has forecast "gusts of 50-60mph", with the possibility of 80 mph in exposed and coastal areas.
The Islands' air bridge has been cancelled as a result of the forecast.
A sheep chill factor of 87 is also expected, with the risk at a danger level to newly shorn sheep.
The sun burn risk for the Islands is forecast as "very high".
