US President Donald Trump has named a retired Marine Corps general as his new Chief of Staff.

General John Kelly currently heads the Department of Homeland Security which is responsible for border security, immigration, cyber hacking and natural disaster management.

The Chief of Staff is regarded as a highly influential figure who oversees the actions of the White House staff, manages the President's schedule, and decides who is allowed to meet with him.

John Kelly takes over from Reince Priebus who resigned after being accused of leaking information to the media.
