The Royal Navy has confirmed that a Type 23 frigate was deployed after two Russian warships entered a "UK area of interest".
Anti-submarine destroyer Vice-Admiral Kulakov made it's way through the Dover Strait in the English Channel over the weekend.
In response, the Royal Navy deployed a ship, which has not been identified, to escort the vessel.
It did, however, confirm that a second Russian ship was intercepted elsewhere off the British Coast.
A Royal Navy spokesperson told Forces News:
"We can confirm a Royal Navy Type 23 Frigate escorted two Russian Navy ships through the UK area of interest over the weekend."

The Royal Navy has escorted a number of Russian vessels in the English Channel this year.
Intelligence ship Vasily Tatishchev, depot ship PM82 and frigate Severomorsk were all monitored.
