Royal Recognition For Defence Engineering At Prestigious Awards Ceremony

His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales has presented a special award created in his name, to recognise the work of long-serving apprentices for their contributions to defence engineering.

It’s the first time the honour has been bestowed and was part of the annual apprenticeship awards ceremony at the Ministry of Defence, where young engineers were also recognised.

Chf Tech Rob Bates, RAF, started his career as an apprentice- and was in line to receive a special award.

Even before being announced the winner, he was thrilled to have been invited to the special event:

“I’m extremely honoured to be here. It’s a great delight to be nominated.”

Rob joined the RAF as an apprentice 20 years ago, and worked tirelessly to promote engineering.

It was the first time that His Royal Highness presented the special award to Rob, who was quite overwhelmed by the honour:

“I do the job for the joy of doing it. This is going to be a moment that I’ll cherish forever”.
