Scots Dragoon Guards Take Part In Potential Non Commissioned Officer Cadre

Members of the Scots Dragoon Guards have been spending the last four weeks being pushed physically and mentally, to see if they’ve got what it takes to take that first step up the ranks.

They have been taking part in a Potential Non Commissioned Officer cadre, testing their leadership skills as they hope to be promoted to Lance Corporal.

They have spent last four weeks at the training camp in Kirkcudbright looking to impress their superiors.

Some of the testings has consisted of getting to grips with using Javelin anti-tank missiles and brushing up on their teamwork skills ahead of deployment in a few months.

After spending much of the year on ceremonial duties, many of those in the unit have relished the chance to get back in the field and sharpen their skills ahead of upcoming challenges.

Trooper Max Poole said the training has given him a lot of experience:

"I haven't done too many exercises with my regiment before so I think this course will push me a little further and will definitely help me a lot in the future".

It’s also given them the chance to impress their new commanding officer.

Lieutenant Colonel Fraser McLeman only took charge of Scots DG in July.

And this exercise has also given him the chance to see his troops in action as they prepare to deploy.

They will be heading to Eastern Europe and the Gulf on the horizon, there will be plenty of opportunities for them to display those skills.
