'Soldiers Tackle Man To The Ground' After Fire Outside Brompton Barracks
Soldiers had to tackle a man to the ground after a reported fire outside Brompton Barracks in Chatham last night.
Kent Police and Fire and Rescue Services were called to the site at about 6pm to reports of a fire near the gate.
A 43-year-old man was arrested for affray, attempted arson and possession of an offensive weapon.
He is currently in custody and the police are not treating the incident as terrorism.
British Army sources told Forces News that the man was confronted by the Gate Guard before soldiers stepped into help.
An Army Spokesperson said:
“We can confirm that a man has been arrested after an incident outside the main gate of Brompton Barracks in Chatham at approximately six o’clock on Tuesday 11 July. The police are now investigating and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”
