St George's Day Celebrations For The 11 Sphinx Battery Gunners
Gunners from 11 Sphinx Battery have marched through Emsworth, Hampshire, as part of the town's annual celebrations for St George's Day.
The town's St George's Day celebrations have always had a forces connection, and it recently re-affirmed its commitment to the military covenant.
The battery, part of 16 Regiment Roya l Artillery, marched through Emsworth to a very warm English welcome.
Joining them on parade were Korean war veterans and children from Thorny Island and Emsworth primary schools.
16 Regiment Royal Artillery used to be split across the country with batteries in North Luffenham as well as here in Hampshire.
However, last year all personnel from the regiment were united in nearby Baker Barracks on Thorney Island.
11 Sphinx Battery were selected to be the first to be equipped with tracked rapier and in November 1984, they went on operational tour of the Falkland Islands until March 1985.
