Government shelling and air strikes on rebel-held areas of the Syrian capital Damascus have killed at least 98 people, according to a monitoring group and paramedics.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said it was the deadliest day in three years in the Eastern Ghouta area.
The Syrian Civil Defence, also known as the White Helmets, said the shelling and air strikes on Monday killed 98 and that some people are still under the rubble.
The human rights group said 20 children were among those killed.
The suburbs affected have been subjected to a weeks-long bombardment that has killed and wounded hundreds of people.
Opposition activists said government forces have brought in reinforcements in preparation for a wider offensive on the area - the last main rebel stronghold near Damascus.
