The Technology Taking Veterans Back To The Battlefield

VR technology was once the preserve of computer games alone - but it's now having an increased role in the Armed Forces.

The Virtual Reality Show 2017 in London has dedicated a section to the way 'VR' could help military personnel.

Afzal Ali, from the Government-related UK Defence Solutions Centre, said VR "is about understanding what the future nature of conflict will be":

"Just as all training and mission rehearsal allows you to do, is play out all the different environments before actually taking it into operation."

One system, Bravemind, has been developed by Californian computer scientists and can transport you to Afghanistan and Iraq.

It's being used as an innovative treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder that's been getting great results in younger American veterans.

Also on display is 'The Igloo', a 360-degree group immersive space that's been used to help personnel train as if they were on the battlefield.
