Tigers Tune Up To Spearhead NATO's Force
British troops in Germany have been taking on demanding large-scale training.
Soldiers from the 1st Battalion the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment (1 PWRR) are part of NATO's spearhead force, which means they can be called upon with just 48-hours notice.
The 1st Battalion The Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment is 3 months into its new role as a high readiness Armoured Infantry Battalion, as part of an Armoured Infantry Brigade.As part of this Reaction Force, 1 PWRR will undertake short notice contingency tasks and provide the Army’s conventional deterrence for Defence.
Around 400 infantry soldiers have been taking part in the 3-week exercise. With the soldiers on a 48-hour notice to move, keeping training constant and current is of utmost importance.
The regiment has everything from experienced infantrymen right down to the newest soldier straight out of training, for whom something of this size this will be a brand new experience. Conducting this kind of large-scale training is essential as they form part of the multinational NATO spearhead force which consists of 20,000 personnel including land, air, maritime and special forces components.
