Tradesmen Answer The Call To Get Soldiers Off The Street
A DIY SOS project has been set-up to help ex-servicemen who are struggling with homelessness in Scotland.
Soldiers Off The Street is currently renovating two houses in Ayrshire to provide safe accommodation for veterans.
Dozens of volunteers and tradesman answered the call to help by donating time to restore the buildings, donating their time and labour for free.
The houses are located on the site of a former military base on the outskirts of Troon and they will provide enough space for eight veterans when they are completed.
Bryce Shepherd, a neighbour and army veteran said:
"I think it's an excellent project... it should be done in more houses here."
He said: "Everybody here chips in, if anybody's got a problem, anybody sees to it. So anyone that's here will be well helped."
It is hoped that the houses will be ready for the veterans early next year.
