Travel Back In Time And Experience The Battlefield Through Virtual Reality
To mark the centenary of the battle of Passchendaele the Royal British Legion have teamed up with Historian Dan Snow to create an immersive historical experience, using VR headsets and 360 videos, people can be transported straight to the battle field 100 years ago.
Both Cadets and Veterans were invited to the launch to have a go with the headsets.
The 360 film played footage which made users what is was like going over the top leaving the trenches and the point of view of the medics out there on the battle field.
Dan Snow describes Passchendaele as one of the bloodiest and biggest battles in British history, he said: "It ought to be remembered."
The hope is that this new virtual reality approach to history lessons will make learning more accessible to everyone, all you need is a mobile connection and a phone, which is easier than having to travel somewhere or spend money on going to exhibitions.
Chelsea Pensioner John Kidman attended to try out the headsets, although it wasn't what he expected he did say he thinks the new way of learning history will "be a hit".
"A lot of people gave their lives to Passchendaele, it must never be forgotten".
The films are available now on the Royal British Legion Website and you can also request a cardboard headset to get the full experience using your phone.
