US President Donald Trump has claimed he could win the Afghanistan War in "a week" but said he does not want to wipe the country "off the face of the earth"
He made the comments alongside Pakistan's prime minister Imran Khan who was visiting the White House for talks.
“I could win that war in a week. I just don’t want to kill 10 million people," President Trump told reporters.
“I have plans on Afghanistan that if I wanted to win that war, Afghanistan would be wiped off the face of the Earth.
"It would be gone. It would be over in literally in ten days. And I don't want to do that. I don't want to go that route.”
President Trump also said it is "ridiculous" that the US has been engaged in Afghanistan for almost two decades.
He added Pakistan was helping the US to "extricate" its troops out of Afghanistan.
Speaking about the war in Afghanistan, Mr Khan said: "There is no military solution in Afghanistan.
"If you go all out military, millions and millions of people will die."

Reports have suggested the US is planning to pull its troops out of Afghanistan.
President Trump has long called for the withdrawal of American troops from the Middle East.
Speaking at the White House, he described US troops as acting as "policemen" in Afghanistan.
"Basically, we’re policemen right now, and we’re not supposed to be policemen," he said.
"We’ve been there for 19 years in Afghanistan. It’s ridiculous and I think Pakistan helps us with that because we don't want to stay as policemen."
