US Air Force Woman From RAF Lakenheath Killed In Car Crash

A US Air Force woman from RAF Lakenheath has died after a car crashed into a tree in Elveden.

The crash took place at around 12.10am Friday morning about a mile North of the entrance to Centre Parcs when a blue Honda Civic crashed into a tree.

RAF Lakenheath confirmed that an airman from the 48th Fighter Wing had died in the crash, and Suffolk police confirmed that she was a woman in her 20s. 

The US Air Force said the identity of the woman would not be released until 24 hours after next of kin have been informed.

They also said that additional details will be available until the accident investigation is complete.

A spokesperson for Suffolk police said that fire and ambulance crews had attended the scene.

"A woman has died following a serious road traffic collision in Elveden.

"Police were called at 12.10am this morning, Friday 24 November, to reports of a single vehicle collision on the B1106.

"A blue Honda Civic collided with a tree approximately a mile north of the Centre Parcs entrance. Ambulance and fire crews were also in attendance, but the driver – a woman aged in her 20s – sadly died at the scene."

The B1106 road between London Road and Green Road was closed while an investigation into the crash took place.

The police have asked that any witnesses contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 101, quoting reference CAD 4 of November 24th.
