US Service Member Killed During Anti-Islamic State Operation

A US service member has died as a result of wounds obtained on Wednesday during a partnered operation with American and Afghan Forces in Eastern Afghanistan.

A number of other US and Afghan service members were also injured during the operation, which was carried out with the aim of further reducing so-called Islamic State (IS) presence in Afghanistan.

The wounded personnel have been medically evacuated for treatment.

Next of kin notifications are underway.
