A United States serviceman has died after sustaining a wound during a combat operation in eastern Afghanistan.

U.S. Army Special Operations Command said Sergeant First Class Christopher Andrew died in eastern Afghanistan on Thursday after being wounded by enemy small arms fire.

The incident is under investigation.

In addition, an Afghan security force member was killed and several were wounded.

Less than a week ago, U.S. Army Corporal Joseph Maciel was killed on July 7 in an apparent “insider” attack by a member of local security forces, and two other service members were wounded.
