WATCH: New 'Dunkirk' Trailer Released

Dunkirk trailer

A new full-length trailer has been released for the upcoming 'Dunkirk' movie.

Based on real events, the film tells the story of the 1940 evacuation - also known as the 'Miracle of Dunkirk' - during which a fleet of British ships rescued 400,000 Allied troops from Nazi soldiers.

It took more than a week to bring the men home from the beach in northern France with a hastily assembled fleet of over 800 boats.

The epic film stars several Hollywood names, including Tom Hardy, former One Direction singer Harry Styles, Kenneth Branagh and Oscar-winner Mark Rylance.

It's directed by Christopher Nolan, the mind behind Batman's "The Dark Knight" trilogy, Inception and Interstellar.

Some were rescued from the beaches to the larger ships by what came to be known as the 'little ships of Dunkirk', a flotilla of hundreds of merchant marine boats, fishing boats, pleasure craft, and lifeboats called into service for the emergency.

The evacuation was described as a "miracle of deliverance" by Winston Churchill in his 'We Shall Fight On The Beaches' speech.

The film is set to hit UK cinemas on the 21st of July.
