WATCH: We Speak To Major General Bob Bruce About The Future Of The Army In Scotland

One of Scotland’s most senior soldiers says he’s looking forward to a busy and exciting year for the army north of the border.

In an interview with Forces TV, Major General Bob Bruce discussed deployment to Iraq as well as the planned base closures that are due to begin:

“It’s all about doing things more efficiently, and it’s appropriate that we in the army constantly look how we can use our resources more efficiently”.

“When it comes to Fort George and Glencorse, we have a target date into 2032, and there will be some defence security reviews and elections between now and then- but for now we plan for it.

“It’s crucially important that we in the army reflect the society which we are charged with defending.

“We would like people in Scotland to feel proud of who we are and what we do in their name, and that pride will hopefully encourage people to come and join”.
