What Britain Does Best: Marking The Royal Baby's Arrival With A Bang

Celebratory gun salutes thundered across London today to mark the arrival of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s third child.

The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery fired 41-rounds from Hyde Park to celebrate the birth of the couple’s second son, who was born on Monday.

Teams of horses galloped across the park, pulling their trademark thirteen-pounder guns before they were seamlessly detached - creating an impressive sight for the tourists gathered to watch:

“I thought it was wonderful - I’ve never seen it before, so I was really surprised at the vibration and noise”.

“As soon as I heard the baby was born I thought ‘I’m coming up for that gun ceremony’”.

“It’s a historic occasion - the pomp and ceremony and the organisation of the British army is something else - you Brits do it very well.”

The Honourable Artillery Company, also in-keeping with tradition, fired a 62-round salute from the Tower of London.

Gun salutes of this kind are carried out in honour of the birth of every Prince or Princess.

Although the name of the new Prince has not yet been announced, favourites include Arthur, James, Philip and Albert.

Despite being just a day old, this baby has undoubtedly already made a huge impact on the world.
