Royal Engineer begins world-first Atlantic row in memory of late grandfather
A Royal Engineer is attempting something no one has ever done before – rowing solo from mainland Europe to mainland North America.
Jack Jarvis serves with the Royal School of Military Engineering and is attempting to raise more than £50,000 for the charity, Brainstrust.
His "inspiration" for the challenge is his late grandfather, who passed away in 2007 from a brain tumour.
The soldier set off from Portugal for Miami on Friday morning.
The whole journey is around 4,500 nautical miles and is expected to take nearly 100 days.
