WW2 Grenade Found In Lake

Wiltshire grenade discovery

A World War Two grenade has been found in a lake in Wiltshire.

The explosive was discovered by workmen who were draining the lake yesterday morning.

An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team were quickly called to the site in Royal Wootton Bassett.

The grenade was later confirmed to be inactive by the team.

A similar grenade was also discovered at a Wiltshire building site back in 2017.

Wiltshire North Sergeant Louise McCoy Said: “This is quite an unusual incident for Royal Wootton Bassett and certainly not something we see every day.

“The workmen who called police were great and acted quickly to alert us and took all the necessary precautions.

“Our officers arrived and put all the necessary measures in place to ensure the scene was secure, setting up a cordon.

“Specialist search dog Jim and PC Cindy Hargreave came to assist and helped ensure the area was safe from further explosives.

“It was a great example of partnership working with our EOD colleagues, who arrived swiftly and fortunately found out it was no longer an active grenade.”
