HMS Queen Elizabeth returns to Portsmouth after Liverpool and Scotland visits

HMS Queen Elizabeth has returned to her home base following visits to Liverpool and Scotland.

Crowds lined the beach and harbour walls to get a view of the Royal Navy's flagship as she arrived at Portsmouth Naval Base after visiting the Firth of Clyde for the second time since her launch in 2014.

The 65,000-tonne vessel visited Loch Long on the Clyde, where she berthed at the Glen Mallan ammunition jetty – recently upgraded to accommodate the Queen Elizabeth-class carriers.

The carrier also visited Liverpool for five days, with the crew hosting visits from the local community.

The Royal Navy said HMS Queen Elizabeth visited Glen Mallan as part of a routine logistics visit after returning to sea as the UK's Very High Readiness Strike Carrier.

The carrier's sister ship, HMS Prince of Wales, is currently in the Arctic for NATO's Exercise Cold Response 2022 – the alliance's biggest Arctic exercise for 30 years.
