The pallbearers who carried the Queen's coffin at Her Majesty's state funeral are reportedly back in Iraq for operations.

The MailOnline has reported the eight troops, from 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards, have headed back to an airbase in Iraq used to fight so-called Islamic State extremists.

An Army spokesperson told Forces News: "We do not comment on operational rotations and, therefore, won't be able to provide comment on the claims."

There have been calls on social media for the Guardsmen who carried Queen Elizabeth II's coffin at her state funeral to be awarded MBEs.

1st Battalion Grenadier Guards had a close connection with the Queen – as the serving monarch she held the position of company commander and made a personal review of the company every decade.
