Military celebrates King's 76th birthday with gun salutes across the country
Gun salutes have sounded out across the country to mark King Charles' 76th birthday.
In London, the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery fired a 41 Gun Royal Salute in Green Park, while the Honourable Artillery Company fired a 62 Gun Royal Salute from Tower Wharf.
The King marked the occasion with a visit to a surplus food festival, opening the first Coronation Food Hub in south east London.
A 21 Gun Salute was also fired from Edinburgh Castle to mark the monarch's birthday.
Balaklava Company, 5th Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland took up ceremonial guard at the castle in advance of the events, accompanied by the Pipes and Drums of the 4th Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland.
Providing the musical support was the Band of The Royal Regiment of Scotland as they led out 170 (Imjin) Battery, 12th Regiment Royal Artillery, the saluting troop with a solo piper from the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards performing as he led out the Reviewing Officer, Dame Katherine Grainger.
Earlier this month, the Military Wives Choirs celebrated the King's birthday by releasing a new song called November Sunday.
The lullaby reflects on the "chilly, foggy London night" in 1948 when Charles was born at Buckingham Palace, capturing a post-war Britain filled with hope. It also honours his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who, like many Military Wives Choirs members, served in the Armed Forces and was herself a military wife.
Throughout the day, the King has been inundated with birthday wishes from across the military community.
