2 PARA Playing Their Part In Huge NATO Exercise

C Company, 2nd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment are among almost 5,000 troops taking part in the largest airborne training exercise in Europe since the Cold War.

Various NATO forces are currently parachuting into Bulgaria, Italy, Romania and Germany.

And like many of the soldiers involved, 2 PARA have been conducting a simulated strike operation.

It comes as Russia accuses NATO of 'provocation' following the opening of a new training centre in the former Soviet Republic of Georgia.

The country wants to join the alliance and already commits troops to NATO's mission in Afghanistan.

But Russia has warned that the move would 'destabilise the region'

Georgia, meanwhile, insists the training centre was not aimed against any country while NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said the facility would promote closer cooperation.
