Apaches And Bullets Fly As British Troops Train In USA

'It's about as big as it gets'. That's the verdict of an American Commander on 'Exercise Rattlesnake' in Louisiana.

They are hosting the 3rd Battalion The Rifles (3 RIFLES) who have flown 4,500 miles from Edinburgh to embed with US forces.

The action has been taking place at Fort Polk, one of the top urban training environments in the world.

Training in an urban environment in the UK involves using blank ammunition to protect soldiers when they are clearing the rooms.

In Louisiana, the training buildings use a special type of absorbent ballistic concrete meaning you can use live rounds with a minimum chance of ricochet.

In the first of three exclusive reports on the exercise, Ali Gibson takes us straight into the action.
