The Army's Wakeboarding Hero Heads To World Championship
The leading wakeboarder in the Forces hopes that his nomination for a prestigious sports award will boost the sport across the military.
Wake boarding is a minority sport in the forces, enjoyed by a small but dedicated band of participants, most of whom gathered in Bedford this week for the inter-services championships.
But the sport has recently received a boost, following the news that the military’s leading rider has been shortlisted for the prestigious Army Sportsman of the Year Award.
Dale Crossley is the current number one masters rider in the UK, as well as being the reigning inter-services champion.
He’s hoping that his nomination in October’s awards will expose the sport to a wider audience within the military community.
There are signs that the sport is already growing. For the first time in many years the Royal Navy entered a team into this year’s inter-services championships.
Dale believes that his success is down to the support that he gets in the Army, saying:
“The Army’s been fantastic in helping me to progress and get time on the water”.
Dale will shortly be taking part in the world championships in Mexico - if he does well there, he can expect to return home to a hero’s welcome.
