The Brigadier Who's Done His Bit For Army Restructuring
No one likes goodbyes but if you're going to go, it's good to do it in style.
And after two years as commander of 20th Armoured Infantry Brigade in Sennelager, Brigadier Ian Mortimer has done just that.
When he arrived, 5 Rifles was still in Afghanistan on Operation Herrick XX, and plans were coming into place for restructuring as part of Army 2020.
As part of that restructuring, he said goodbye to the Queen's Dragoon Guards and brought on board the Royal Dragoon Guards and 4 Scots based Catterick.
The brigadier is envious of new brigadier, Mike Elviss, who will pick up where he left off commanding the brigade:
"I've got the brigade into the forming up place, and he's about to cross the line of departure. If I were him I'd be truly excited about the prospects that lie ahead. He is going to be busy, but I think (it's) all for the benefit because the Very High Readiness (Joint) Task Force is NATO's principle brigade at readiness and therefore it is important to us. He's going to have a fantastic time".
The British Army's 20th Armoured Infantry Brigade (The Iron Fist) is part of the 3rd (United Kingdom) Division.
