Cost of Rebuilding Afghanistan Greater Than the Marshall Plan

The cost of rebuilding Afghanistan is now greater than recovering Europe after the Second World War. A US government report has revealed corruption, waste and poor planning in most of the development projects for Afghanistan pushing the total cost past that of the Marshall Plan when adjusted for inflation.

The report has revealed America has spend £61.5 billion since 2002 with the United Kingdom providing £890 million. This is on top of a military spend of £296 billion for the US and £22 billion from the United Kingdom. The Marshall Plan would cost the equivalent of £61 billion in today's money.
