What Does The RLC Do?

Over 40 per cent of the RLC are detached and 'enable' to the Army to function wherever they are in the world. Every military exercise or operation will require an element of the RLC whether that is by the provision of food, equipment, logistics or other specialised functions.

The RLC has land, sea and air despatch and work closely with the Navy, RAF, Special Forces, Intelligence Services and other Government Departments.

The Royal Logistic Corps (RLC) is the largest corps in the Army and was formed in 1993, following the 'Options for Change' review with the amalgamation of five units.

What Is The Motto Of The RLC?

The motto 'We Sustain' is derived from the Army Catering Corps and the inscription on the garter band reads: "Honi soit qui mal y pense" and can be translated as: "Evil to him who evil thinks".

The RLC has many nicknames within the military including; the 'Rather Large Corps', the 'Really Lazy Corps' and 'Recruits Last Chance'.

How Many Trades Are In The RLC?

There is a preconception amongst many that the RLCs' main trades are Chefs, Drivers and Stores but in fact has the most variety of jobs in the Army, including the smallest trade of Army Photographer.

There are 16 trades open to Regular serving personnel and 10 trades for Reservists (see full list below).

Queen's Regulations state:

“In war the RLC administers prisoners of war labour” and “the RLC provides the war graves service.”

What Is The Cap Badge Of The RLC?

It is made up of the cap badges of the forming corps including; laurel and garter band from the Royal Engineers, Indian star from the Royal Corps of Transport, the centre shield from the Royal Army Ordnance Corps and the crossed axes from the Royal Pioneer Corps.

How Many Victoria Cross (VC) Holders Have The RLC Had?

There have been five VCs awarded to personnel who derive from establishments that became the Royal Corps of Transport, the first two dating back to 1858.

What About Sport In The RLC?

The RLC has a strong reputation for sports performance and its ability to produce top level athletes who represent the Army on the world stage.

To date, the RLC has the only qualified female display jumpmaster in the Army.
