Former Soldier And Magician Paul Daniels Dies

Tributes have been paid to Paul Daniels, a man who entertained the military many times with his magic in the 1980s and 1990s.
 
The 77-year-old died at his Berkshire home with his wife Debbie at his bedside in the early hours. He was diagnosed with a brain tumour earlier this year.

He was interviewed for the BFBS TV programme Scene Here in 1992 about his memories of being stationed in Hong Kong while in the British Army.
"In the Army I learned mostly how to manipulate cards because they were the easiest thing to carry around.
 
My grenade pouches were always full of playing cards. I know how to deter the enemy you see, here pick a card!"
Paul Daniels was called up for National Service and served with 1st Battalion The Green Howards.
