Colonel Leonard Messel was a seasoned soldier who trained British men to prepare them to fight in the Great War. He also helped them however he could by being a prolific letter writer keeping in touch with the men and their families.

Nymans in West Sussex has opened a new display of these letters. Tim Cooper went to find out more.
