Inquest Resumes Into 'Beasting' Soldier Death

An inquest has resumed into the death of a young soldier who collapsed during a so called 'beasting' punishment exercise.

Private Gavin Williams of 2nd Battalion the Royal Welsh Regiment died in July 2006.

Three soldiers stood trial for his manslaughter but were cleared.

The court heard the inquest will focus on three issues...

  • The immediate circumstances of Gavin's death
  • The preventability of it, specifically what was known or what should have been known about the punishment regime by the chain of command
  • Any lessons learned

Will Inglis reports from Salisbury Coroners Court.
