In pictures: Princess Royal's first visit to Glencorse Barracks as Deputy Colonel-in-Chief
The Princess Royal has visited the 2nd Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland (2 SCOTS) at Glencorse Barracks in Penicuik, her first visit to the barracks since being appointed Deputy Colonel-in-Chief.
Her Royal Highness was welcomed to the Midlothian base by Major Hamish Waring, the battalion's second-in-command, who escorted her throughout the visit.
During the day, Princess Anne met officers, soldiers and their families before planting a commemorative tree to mark the occasion.

"Her genuine interest in meeting our soldiers and their families reinforced the strong and enduring connection between the royal family and our regiment," Maj Waring said.
The new tree mirrors one planted at the barracks in 1929 by Princess Mary, who also held the Princess Royal title.
The original plaque from that earlier ceremony remains in place, although the tree itself was replanted in 2006 by the Lord Lieutenant.
The visit concluded with the Princess Royal being presented with a posy by the eight-year-old daughter of Warrant Officer Class 2 Stephanie Sanderson.
"Today was an incredibly proud moment watching my daughter present Her Royal Highness with the posy. She had been eagerly anticipating this day for weeks, practising her curtsey with excitement," WO2 Sanderson said.
Glencorse Barracks has been home to 2 SCOTS since 2006 and has served as an infantry base in south-east Scotland since the late 19th century.
The battalion is a light-role infantry unit commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Oliver Bridle.
