Raising The Profile Of Army Karate

The British Army Karate Team has been acknowledged for its medal-winning success at home and overseas during the past 12 months.

It's been put forward for the Team of the Year prize at next month's Army Sports Awards.

Private Chris Rowan, part paratrooper, part para-ranger, has just celebrated his maiden European championship title, and is the captain of the team.
"It took me about five years to even realise there was [an Army] team, [but] it's going well, I'm glad I found it... I've just been onto the TASS program, the Talented Athlete Scholarship Schemes, and I go to Worcester University and have a strength and conditioning coach, and a physio there. So that's really taken my training to the next level".
Rowan's been nominated for the Army Sportsman of the Year. It's his reward for his dedication to his sport - he trains every night.

With Karate set to feature at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, the Army are doing all they can to support his goal of taking to the mat in Japan.

Despite not having as large a following as other sports in the military, the Army Karate Team could yet dominate this year's Army Sports Awards...
