Recognising British Troops' Achievements
A number of troops from Second Battalion The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment have received commendations from their Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Chris Davies.
The awards recognise achievements in everything from sport and military skills, to attitude and commitment to the job.
They were given out to several dozen members of the battalion on the parade square at Alexander Barracks in Cyprus.
Corporal Sarah Hamer, who works in personnel support with the Adjutant General’s Corps, was given an award in recognition of her admin work with the battalion.
Another soldier receiving an award was Lance Corporal Robert Weideman, of D Company.
Originally from South Africa, he was recognised for his willingness to help other soldiers within the battalion.
The battalion as a whole has just won a gold medal in the Cambrian Patrol exercise (see last year's edition here), an arduous international military skills competition which draws teams from armies across the world.
But although they've proven a force to be reckoned with on foot, their role will soon change.
2PWRR are now in the home stretch of their three-year tour of Cyprus.
Next summer they’ll return to Cottesmore in Rutland where they’ll re-role and become a light mechanised infantry battalion.
