REME Go Live Firing On Otterburn

Electrical and mechanical engineers of 1 CS Battalion REME have been put through their paces this week during a live firing exercise in Otterburn.

The tab and shooting contest marked the final event in the annual CO’s Competition.

However, before going out on the range every member of 1CS battalion REME is checked for battle rattle as tinkling soldiers don’t sound professional.

It's just one of the tests on the Sergeant Major’s extensive list.

Once the inspections complete, it’s time to tab the 3km to the range, which is of course timed.

It’s been a full year since these electrical and mechanical engineers have been out live firing.

Two-thirds of those on the range today have never fired at this level before.

The COs contest runs throughout the year with a different challenge each month, whether sport, green skills or engineering.

After a young private lost his life at Otterburn back in August, safety precautions on the range are as meticulous as ever.

Thankfully for the soldiers of 1CS Battalion REME it’s been a safe and successful exercise.
