The Reserves Showing Off To The Boss
They represent some of the UK’s largest companies, and on the training area inside RAF Akrotiri, they got the chance to see what the Army Reserves really do.
106 Battalion, Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, was formed in 2014.
It recruits from across Scotland and Northern Ireland and currently has 189 reservists.
In 2013 the government pledged to increase Britain’s reserves to 35,000 by 2020, but there have been concerns over how achievable that figure is.
Now, companies are being invited to see first-hand what they and their reservist employees can get from a part-time military career.
In Cyprus, it meant the chance for managers to watch as tradesmen demonstrated a core REME skill… Extracting a vehicle under fire.
Reservists in the REME have to serve a minimum of 27 days a year.
For the Army, this was an opportunity to show the rewards that can be gained from life in the Reserves.
