Services Hit The Road For Cycling Championships

The Army have dominated this year's Inter-Services Road Race Championships, with victory in the men's and women's competitions

Reflecting the surge in competitive cycling in the UK since the London 2012 Olympic Games the leading military rider, Ryan Perry, holds several National Time Trial titles.

While Perry may have been the dominant individual rider team honours were also up for grabs, with the Royal Air Force putting on a spirited display.

However, there would be no denying Perry his place at the top, helping the Army to grab the team title as well.

Meanwhile, the Army proved too strong for the other two services, also claiming the women’s prize.

Charmaine Porter lead the women’s team to a 1 2 3 finish in an already trophy laden season, which has seen the team feature in the National Series.

Porter was quick to pay tribute to the service for making it possible, saying that:
“the support that we get is massive […] without the Army we wouldn’t have been able to enter the series’”
As the 2016 road race season comes to a close, the Army lead the way; no doubt the Air Force and Navy will be hoping for a change next year.
